What to Expect During a Tattoo Consultation with Reef Side Tattoo?

Before getting your new Tattoo or Piercing, you should book a consultation appointment with your tattoo or body artist. You can also discuss your ideas and design to gain a personalized look from the tattoo artist. To help answer any questions and to help you achieve a fun and informative consultation with your artist, read further below.

What Happens During The Consultation Session?

A tattoo and piercing consultation is a one-on-one sit-down with the artist before going in for the procedure. This consultation could take place weeks before the appointments or even on the same day. The moment you book your tattoo or piercing appointment, you will get notified via email of a consultation where the artist will sit down with you and discuss everything that will go into your next Tattoo or Piercing. Sometimes, this is also done without a sit-down, just via emails.

This mainly includes future aspects and how body modification will affect your daily life. At the same time, they will look at your medical history. There are many things your artist will discuss with you before the procedure regarding your tattoo or piercing, and this is also an excellent chance to clear any confusion and curiosity about getting a new body modification.

Make sure to ask questions to help you understand the process better. This way, you’ll feel confident that you’re making the right decision about getting a tattoo or piercing from Reef Side Tattoo. Your artist will discuss a few things regarding the process and how it works so you know what you’re getting into while understanding the entire process we take to ensure the safety of you and our team. Your artist will also discuss the pricing, depending on the design of the tattoo or the quality of the jewelry you go for, and Help you regarding the procedures or precious metals.

Deciding on the placement is more challenging than creating the right design. Your artist will discuss different options. Ultimately, you can choose the best place for your Tattoo or Piercing, But as professionals, we make sure to take the time to do with Tattoo designs and piercing placement.

Other things you should discuss with the artist include the features of the Tattoo, Like foreground and background, and if any changes need to be made to it before the procedure, as well as the timeframe of your tattoo process and the importance of being there on time.

If your artist has agreed to go ahead with your body modification process, you’ll have to pay a deposit fee to hold your preferred time and day.

When it comes to tipping your artist, there is no such rule but rather etiquette. If you feel like they earned it for the consultation, you can list them however you’re satisfied. You can save your tip money for the day of your tattoo appointment, as it seems more appropriate to tip them for their hard work. Tipping isn’t a forced law, but it is one of the basic tattoo etiquette you must follow.

How do you prepare for a tattoo or piercing consultation?

A consultation is one of the first steps toward your new body modification. Notice you must make sure that you’re well-prepared for the talk. To be successful, keep the artist’s mind about not tattooing or piercing you. For the perfect consultation experience, you must know a few things. That way, you can prepare and know what to expect during the consultation process.

Knowing what to expect means you feel confident and clear. Mentioned below are a few preparation tips for A tattoo or Piercing consultation:

Know what your artist specializes in.

There are a billion tattooing and piercing techniques, from portrait realism to realistic hypermonochrome tattooing. Then we have piercers who use clamps and those who don’t. If you choose a body modification artist specializing in a specific style, you must select a design that matches your design or piercing needs. More importantly, plan out some questions that allow them to consider performing other techniques. Knowing their techniques will give you more scope to discuss your body modification with them and improve its design or choose better jewelry.

Keep yourself open to advice.

Some people are reluctant to take anyone else’s advice once they have made up their minds. However, our artists are professionals who have been catering to clients for years, and they give the best advice when it comes to choosing the right design, jewelry, or placement. If the artist feels the design or Piercing is NOT a good fit, They may decide to decline to work with you and refund you to protect their name and reputation.

This will allow you and our studio to achieve the best tattoo and piercings along with the artist’s personalization.

Know what you want.

To prepare yourself well, you must know what you want for the Tattoo or Piercing. It would help if you researched different ideas to show the artist so they can design your perfect Tattoo or Piercing.

You can start gathering different ideas from the internet or chicken scratch a sketch. These will be designs you find eye-catching. Collect all of them and bring them to your tattoo or piercing consultation so the artist can create a custom tattoo or recreate the piercing you’ve seen based on your preferences and designs. You could also email these ideas and pictures beforehand so that your artist can know what you’re looking for before you come in.

With Reef Side Tattoo & Piercing, we make sure you feel confident that getting a tattoo or piercing is the right decision for you. Sometimes, the artist might miss out on important details when asking questions, so you must keep a list of questions so that you can ask your body modification artist questions that are specific to you during the consultation.

You MUST discuss your medical history or any previous illnesses with your tattoo or piercing artist.

You then must ask them if it’s risky for you to continue getting tattooed or pierced.

Your artist will discuss all the possibilities, especially if you are under medication.

For the best response and professional guidance, you must talk about all your health conditions with your artist privately and be honest if you want the correct and straightforward answers.

Ask About Payment and Pricing Methods for each tattoo session.

We have a different payment and pricing process. So, during the consultation, ask the artist what they prefer and the various payment methods. We require a 6% fee for all debit or credit cards.

Ask About Our Tattooing or Piercing Process.

Knowing how the process will start will train your mind on what to expect and might also reduce any feelings of stress and anxiety before your appointment.

Other questions you should ask

Artist’s Experience and Portfolio:

How long have you been tattooing?

Can I see examples of your previous work? Do you have a portfolio or an online gallery?

Have you done similar tattoos to the one I want? Can you show me some examples?

Design and Customization:

Based on my idea, what would work best as a tattoo design?

How can we incorporate my ideas and make the design unique?

Do you have any suggestions on improving or modifying my design concept?

Placement and Sizing:

Where would the tattoo look best on my body? What are the considerations for placement?

How will the size of the tattoo affect the level of detail and longevity?

Are there any potential issues or limitations with placing the tattoo in a particular location?

Tattoo Process and Aftercare:

How long do you estimate the tattoo will take to complete?

What kind of equipment and ink do you use?

What is the recommended aftercare routine for this tattoo? Any specific instructions or products?

Pricing and Scheduling:

How do you determine the price of a tattoo? Is it based on size, complexity, or other factors?

Can you provide an estimate for the cost of this tattoo?

What is your availability like? How far in advance should I book the appointment?

Health and Safety:

What are your health and safety practices? How do you ensure a sterile environment?

Are there any specific medical conditions or allergies that I need to disclose before getting a tattoo?

What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel my appointment?

Remember that a tattoo consultation is an opportunity to establish good communication with your tattoo artist and ensure that you’re on the same page regarding your design, expectations, and any concerns you may have.

Can you Bring Someone with You when you get tattooed or pierced?

Sometimes you need that extra support during your tattoo or piercing appointment. But we ask that you only bring up to 2 People per session because we are a busy Studio that holds eight artists, and we want to respect the privacy of our other clients as well as yours.

What’s tattoo or piercing consultation etiquette?

Tattoo and piercing consultation etiquette is when you ask the artist what they prefer during the process, what they don’t like, or what disturbs them. Following proper etiquette to respect your tattoo or piercing artist’s efforts is essential.

Even though other parlors don’t make it mandatory to go through a consultation, we prefer to have one, even if it’s the day of the tattoo or piercing. Consultations are essential for first-timers and keep you more prepared for your body modification. Make sure to prepare yourself well with our help before going in for your tattoo or piercing consultation you booked.
